The Irish Sport Horse (ISH)

The Irish Sport Horse (ISH) is a recognised performance horse that ranks highly in the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses Eventing Rankings. In the last ten years it has won eight times. Traditionally the ISH was a cross between an Irish Draught and a Thoroughbred that ranges in height from 15 to 17 hands (60 to 68 inches, 152 to 173 cm). The ISH is renowned for its good temperament and brains, while still being athletic and tough. We are now seeing more Warm Blood influence, but still retaining a proportion of Irish Draught and Thoroughbred. This is leading to better commercial returns for breeders as the Warm Blood and Thoroughbred are giving the extravagant movement and athleticism, with the Irish Draught contributing to the hardiness with a kind and trainable disposition.

Nagero Irish Sport Horses is based in rural Ireland in Co. Kerry in the Republic. We have a small exclusive yard with nine enormous loose boxes.  We also have a large outdoor sand arena, grass turn-out paddocks and an Indoor arena that is a bit of a work in progress; watch this space!  The whole family is involved in both the horses and running the business. We have previously run a riding school and stood both a Thoroughbred and Irish Draught Stallion and have been breeding and producing horses for both the home market and export for over twenty years. Recently, we have noticed a pattern emerging where buyers have chosen to purchase ‘sight unseen’. The last seven horses to leave us have been sold this way; some to the UK and others to the USA.  The E-Commerce market has expanded in every other sector and we see no reason why it can’t be applied to horse sales.

This has led us to the design of a new website that should launch shortly, where you will buy your new ISH at a click of a button! New legislation should offer greater consumer confidence to buy a horse this way; the fourteen day distance selling ‘cooling off’ period has been extended to thirty days and we will apply this to both our own horses and any we advertise for other people. There is still the chance to view, try and buy in the conventional manner and collection from an airport and accommodation arrangements can all be facilitated if arriving from outside of Ireland. Every horse advertised will have a full 5* vetting with the option for a second vetting, X-Rays if required and every horse will be guaranteed to be exactly as described and fit for purpose.  Delivery Worldwide.

We are also experienced Agents and can source any horse within Ireland that we don’t hold ourselves and this is certainly a growth area. Clients liaise closely with us, using pictures and videos to shortlist suitable horses and
we then ride and evaluate them for you.  Once a horse is selected, we arrange all health checks, exportation paperwork and transport. We offer an unsurpassed service with continual updates during the journey for purchaser peace of mind.
