Chesterfield, SC—February 19–Imagine being at an Olympic-type event—right here in South Carolina! Southern 8ths Farm in Chesterfield has a world class facility where top amateur riders compete annually in the So8ths/Nikon Three-Day Event in the “Heart of the Carolinas.” The riders love it; the officials love it; and the spectators love it!We’re having so much fun, we can’t keep it to ourselves!

Get up close to the action: ringside at dressage or show jumping, or—most exciting of all—hold your breath as horses gallop past you over picture-perfect cross-country obstacles. Bring your cameras! You’ll be right in the middle of this exciting sport.

Southern 8ths is offering a unique opportunity for volunteers to help during the competition. A variety of jobs are available, for the non-rider, the wannabes, and experienced horsemen. Can you open a gate? Read a stop-watch? Carry a box lunch? We can use you!

Moving up the skill level, there are slots for jump judges, bit checkers, ring stewards, and scribes. Training for all jobs will be offered prior to the event. If you can follow simple directions, we want you. Check out the web site for details on the available slots and what is expected. Each day needs a different set of people, from Friday’s dressage to Saturday’s roads & tracks and cross-country, to the show jumping on Sunday.

Southern 8ths will feed you lunch, give you a T-shirt, and offer the opportunity for your group to use the facility. That’s right: saddle clubs or any organized group that provides at least five volunteers will be allowed to bring their own horses and ride on the grounds of this gorgeous farm, for free! We’re having so much fun, we can’t keep it to ourselves!

Grab some friends and spend the weekend. Nearby accommodations are reasonable, and Saturday night features a great barbecue for riders and workers. Join the Saturday afternoon Kentucky Derby party, where the race will be shown on a big screen TV inside the schooling arena. Contests, prizes and drawings are part of the fun.

Southern 8ths Farm needs your help. If you can follow simple directions, we can find a job for you. With 45 riders expected over a four-day period—plus mini-clinics by nationally known officials—we need about 100 volunteers. Visit the website soon and sign up. We’re expecting most of last year’s volunteers to return, and you don’t want to miss your chance to be part of the most exciting event in South Carolina this spring.
