2022 ASPCA Maclay Region 2 Championship Kicks Off at Old Salem Farm
Maclay Regionals Weekend Kicks Off Busy September at Old Salem Farm
The 2022 ASPCA Maclay Region 2 Championship weekend got underway Friday with warm-up classes and a Welcome Reception featuring the rider draw. The reception was provided courtesy of Old Salem Farm. Regional competition takes place on Saturday with riders aiming to punch their ticket to the Maclay National Championship at the National Horse Show in Lexington, Kentucky in November.
“It is always exciting to host the Maclay Regionals and the Northeast’s most talented junior riders,” said Scott Hakim, president and CEO of Old Salem Farm. “These riders are show jumping’s stars of the future and we wish them all the best of luck tomorrow and in their riding careers!”
The ASPCA Maclay Region 2 Championship features courses designed by Paul Jewell and Nancy Wallis in Old Salem’s June Road ring, with ring dimensions, dressing and jumps mimicking the Alltech Arena at the Kentucky Horse Park, home to the Maclay National Championship. Judging are Holly Orlando and Lyman T. Whitehead.
The order of go was determined by the riders themselves as each was called up to pop a balloon which then revealed their number in the start order. Each rider received an embroidered backpack with gifts courtesy of Old Salem Farm and the National Horse Show. Equisite Elements of Style donated a special prize of a sweater and vest, valued at $330, that was given to the rider who drew first in the order.
The Maclay Regionals Weekend kicks off a busy month of September at Old Salem Farm with three weeks of USEF-recognized horse shows rounding out the month. This weekend also features classes on Sunday for hunters, jumpers and other equitation riders of all ages and levels of experience, including MARSHALL & STERLING Children’s & Adult Medal, and Bit O Straw Children’s and Adult Hunter Classics. Riders also have the chance to compete in the Hedge and June Road rings over courses ranging from cross-rails through the 1.10m.
