Gene Frank Wins CMJ Sporthorse 1.40m Open Stake at Lake Placid Horse Shows

Gene Frank rode Isaak VDL to the win in the CMJ Sporthorse 1.40m Open Stake on Saturday at the 2023 Lake Placid Horse Shows (LPHS) Sponsored by Bainbridge Farms, LLC, and Presented by Sea Shore Stables, LLC.

Awarding more than $600,000 in prize money, the Lake Placid Horse Shows run June 27-July 9, highlighted by the $75,000 Great American Insurance Group Grand Prix Presented by Alliant Private Client on Sunday, July 2; the $75,000 Richard M. Feldman Grand Prix Presented by Kadley Farms on Saturday, July 8; and the $15,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby Regional Championship North presented by Eastern Hay and Grain and Purina Animal Nutrition on Sunday, July 9.

In Saturday’s feature event, eight of 26 entries qualified for the jump-off by riding clean over the first-round course designed by Nick Granat. Frank and Isaak VDL were the only ones to go clean in the jump-off which gave them the win. Claiming second with the fastest four-fault ride in 34.444 seconds was Caitlin Boyle on Chapka De Moyon. Third went to Laura Chapot who finished with four faults in 35.860 seconds on Gideon.

Saturday also featured the Grand Craft Low Amateur-Owner Classic and the J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines Adult Amateur Jumper Classic. In the Grand Craft Low Amateur-Owner Classic, Elizabeth Maloney rode Clementine to the win over a 31-horse field with two clean rounds and a jump-off time of 37.029 seconds. Placing second was Patricia Hurter on Heart 2 Heart with two clean rounds and a jump-off time of 37.069 seconds.

In the J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines Adult Amateur Classic, Sophee Steckbeck claimed the win on Shalom, topping a field of 43 entries with two clean rides and a jump-off time of 28.033 seconds. Second place went to Emma Covarrubias and Concetto LX who had two clean rides and a jump-off time of 29.340 seconds. The win gave Steckbeck and Shalom the A section Championship, with Covarrubias and Concetto LX taking Reserve. In the B section, Wendy Nunn was Champion on Cashe’ and tied for Reserve on Zealous along with Stefani Green on Jamaica Girl.
