Following surfing’s debut at Tokyo 2020, with it already becoming a highlight of the sporting coverage with its scenic field of play and awe-inspiring action, competition is set to return for Paris 2024, taking place in Tahiti, a French Polynesian island located in the Pacific Ocean. The beaches of Teahupo’o will host the competition, between 27 and 30 July 2024, with 24 women and 24 men taking part in the respective competitions.
With less than two years to go, the journey to Paris 2024 starts in California for surfers, with the first opportunity to secure a spot for their National Olympic Committee (NOC) at Paris 2024. Here, the highest placed athlete in the men’s and women’s competition will secure one place for their respective NOC.
With competition taking place from 16 to 24 September, 19 Olympians from Tokyo 2020 including medallists Kanoa Igarashi (JPN) and Amuro Tsuzuki (JPN) will compete for World Surfing Games titles, whilst looking ahead to the Olympic Games.
The event is part of the Olympic Qualifiers season, made up of over 3,000 competitions across all individual Olympic sports providing an opportunity to earn a spot at the Olympic Games. For the first time in history, many of these events are identifiable by the Paris 2024 Qualifier label.
