SARASOTA, Fla., June 28, 2013 – Award-winning author Susan Klaus draws on her experience with Thoroughbreds in “Secretariat Reborn,” a suspense thriller with intriguing twists, set in the backdrop of horse racing. Oceanview Publishing is scheduled to release the novel Oct. 1, coinciding with the 40th anniversary year of Secretariat’s Triple Crown sweep.

The story chronicles Christian Roberts, a blond, handsome 25-year-old, who enjoys an easy-going lifestyle, renting out small sailboats on Sarasota Bay, until he receives a Thoroughbred colt from his estranged, dying father and pledges to race the horse, surprisingly, a clone of the legendary Secretariat. That fateful promise plunges him into the underworld of horse racing, exposing him to a heartless trainer, drowning him in debt to a New York mobster, and putting him in the path of a dubious, wealthy sheik who wants his colt. Christian’s determination lands him in hot water with an illegally registered horse and puts his life in jeopardy as the colt demonstrates tremendous potential.

“Secretariat was the greatest equine athlete of all time, and it is unlikely we will see his equal again. Or is it? Klaus has written a terrific ‘what if’ expertly drawing us into the high stakes world of racing with a cast of unforgettable characters. A great read,” according to Susan Richards, New York Times best-selling author of “Chosen by a Horse.”

“Intrigue, romance, horse racing, and a nifty idea for a novel,” says John Lutz, New York Times best-selling author of “Pulse.” “Whether or not horse racing is in your blood, you’ll love the odds on this one.”
