Willie Tynan Rides to Victory in HITS Grand Prix at HITS Vermont

Week 1 of the HITS Vermont Summer Festival is closing out with great competition. Bringing in an entourage of contenders – riders stepped into the $40,000 Purina HITS Grand Prix. Continuing his winning ways from Friday’s HITS Prix, Willie Tynan and Fancy Girl emerged victorious.

The 13-year-old Dutch Warmblood, owned by MDM Equestrian Group, was the last horse on the course. “She’s been with me since she was five, so a lifelong partner. She’s always been a winner, and she’s won a lot of grand prixs for me. She’s a fan favorite – everybody loves her.”

The first course presented a series of technical challenges, requiring riders to maintain a quick pace while maneuvering through the track. Tynan and Fancy Girl proved their mettle by completing the course fault-free, securing their spot in the jump-off alongside five other riders. Tynan had three horses returning for the jump-off, and it was with Fancy Girl and Fenise, owned by MDM Equestrian Group, that he clinched the top two positions.

The jump-off included many tight roll-backs during the first half of the course. At the end of the course, there was a long sprint over to the final oxer. Tynan’s first double-clear time with Fenise was 45.341 seconds, but he would later return with Fancy Girl.

“There were two plans in the jump-off because I had a couple of horses in it. My first horse had one down, so then I just wanted to put up a double clear on the board because I had one more left to go. And then, I hoped it was quick enough.” Tynan and Fenise were the first double-clear, but that was quickly followed by two more clear rounds by the remaining competitors, one of them being Tynan.
