Sapphire Sale catalogue now online

A quality selection of 200 foals, yearlings and breeding stock have been catalogued for the inaugural Sapphire Sale which takes place on Saturday 12 November at 10.30am. The catalogue is now available to view online.

The Sapphire Sale will present the final opportunity of the year to buy yearlings in Ireland and all Sapphire Sale yearlings will have the added attraction of being eligible for the ever – popular €300,000 Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sales Stakes at The Curragh on Irish Champions Weekend. Among the quality selection of yearlings on offer include a full-brother to the Group 3 Princess Margaret Stakes winner SANTOSHA, a Calyx half-sister to Listed winning and Group 2 placed EASTON ANGEL, a Pearl Secret half-sister to two black-type horses in TILLY’S CHILLI and CORMIER, as well as French Navy half-sister to Coventry Stakes runner Up ELDRICKJONES.

70 of the 88 yearlings catalogued are out of winners or are siblings to winners, while 24 yearlings have black-type in the first dam. The catalogue also features the daughter of SILCA CHIAVE who is a twice placed Group 1 mare, who herself is a half to Group 1 winner SILCA’S SISTER, a Ten Sovereigns filly out of Group 3 Round Tower Stakes winning mare DINGLE VIEW who has produced two winners from four runners and the Zoffany son of BUSY BIMBO who is a half-sister to Prix Morny winner UNFORTUNATELY.

Yearlings by sires such as Acclamation, Bated Breath, Calyx, Churchill, Cotai Glory, Dandy Man, Footstepsinthesand, Highland Reel, Magna Grecia, Make Believe, Mehmas, Phoenix of Spain, Profitable, Saxon Warrior, Soldier’s Call, Ten Sovereigns, Time Test, US Navy Flag, Zoffany and more feature among the entries.



BELLABEL flew the flag for the Sapphire Sale in the United States this year, maintaining her unbeaten record stateside when winning the Gr.2 San Clemente Stakes at Del Mar for trainer Phil D’Amato before finishing second in the Gr.1 Del Mar Oaks. The three-year-old by Belardo was sold as a yearling at the Sapphire Sale for €33,000 to BBA Ireland from Ballybin Stud in 2020.

Among the highlights of foals on offer are the Kuroshio colt out of a half-sister to TULLIUS who is the winner of the Group 2 York Stakes, Sandown Mile and Diamond Stakes, Vinesgrove Stud’s Shaman filly who’s grand dam is the Group 1 Nassau Stakes winner FAVOURABLE TERMS, as well as Boherguy Stud’s Belardo colt out of Group 1 placed and Group 2 winner MANDINGA.

Foals sold at recent renewals of the Sapphire Sale have performed at the highest level, most notably 2020 Group 1 Matron Stakes winner CHAMPERS ELYSEES who was sold as a foal by Mantlehill Stud to Aughamore Stud for €12,500 in 2017. The sale is also a proven source of top-class juveniles with two of the highest rated two year olds of 2020, Group 2 Norfolk Stakes winner THE LIR JET and Group 3 Molecomb Stakes winner STEEL BULL, both purchased at the 2018 sale for €9,500 and €5,000 respectively.



The Sapphire Sale will conclude with a session of mares that features 23 winning mares or producers of winners and the broodmare sire profile includes Acclamation, Camelot, Danehill Dancer, Dansili, Iffraaj, Kodiac, Make Believe, Montjeu, New Approach, Oasis Dream, Pivotal, Street Cry, Teofilo and more. Some of the features include WHITEFALL (Street Cry out of a Sadler’s Wells mare) who is the dam of Listed winner DARK JEDI, Listed winner and Group 3 performer FANDITHA (Danehill Dancer) who is the dam of 4 winners and Rockview Stables winning mare SUPERPROUD (Pivotal) who’s half brother realised 200,000gns in Book 2 last year.
