Campbell Brown Claims First FEI Win in $32,000 FEI 3* Speed Class presented by Purina Animal Nutrition at Lake Placid Horse Shows
The USA’s Campbell Brown won her first FEI class in the $32,000 FEI 3* Speed Class presented by Purina Animal Nutrition, Saturday’s featured class at the 2025 Lake Placid Horse Shows (LPHS), Sponsored by The Bainbridge Companies, LLC, and Presented by Sea Shore Stables, LLC. The horse shows at the newly renovated North Elba Showgrounds are sanctioned by the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) and run June 24-July 6.
Alexa Pessoa (USA), winner of the $25,000 Adirondack 1.45m Jumper Classic the class before, was the first of 19 entries to try the 15-effort one-round course designed by Michel Vaillancourt. She set the mark to beat with a clean ride in a time of 71.92 seconds on Leyira, Clover M Sporthorses LLC’s 9-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare. Brown then turned in the only other clean ride of the day, and her time of 67.60 seconds on MMK Equestrian LLC’s 11-year-old Zangersheide mare Colina Z gave her the win. Brown also placed third with the day’s fastest time of 63.09 seconds on MMK Equestrian LLC’s 13-year-old Selle Français gelding Caiam D’Ivraie, but a rail down cost her four faults.
“I had one rail on my first horse, so I was just trying to be fast and efficient on my second and not overcover my lines,” Brown said. “I just got her last December so she’s pretty new to me, but we came together pretty quickly. She’s such a tryer and pretty generous, and I really enjoy riding her. This is my first time in Lake Placid, and it has probably the most beautiful views of any horse show I’ve seen.”
