German Andre Thieme, winner of the City of Barcelona Trophy – MRW Cup

The current European Champion, Andre Thieme, won tonight the City of Barcelona Trophy – MRW Cup, the most important individual class of the CSIO Barcelona.

The German rider, with “Conacco”, was the fastest of the nine participants that went into the second round, in 49.93 seconds. A second and a half more needed the Dutch rider Harrie Smolders and “Dolinn” to finish the course, while French  Megane Moissonier was third with “Cordial”. All three finished the course with no penalties.

Olivier Philippaerts won the La Vanguardia Trophy, second class of the day. The Belgian rider, on “Cap du Marais”, was the fastest one to completing the course with no penalties, with 68.68 seconds. Only six hundredths of a second ahead finished Álex Codina. The young rider, from Barcelona, with “Cruising Star”, achieved a spectacular second place. The podium was completed by the Belgian Gilles Thomas (and “Feromas Van Beek Z”) with 69.18 seconds.

The Spanish Blai Capdevila, riding “Girbau Jamaica” won the Royal Bliss Trophy, the class that opened the second day of the CSIO Barcelona.

Tomorrow, Saturday, the Negrita Cup (11am) will be the opening class of the day on the Olympic track of the Real Club de Polo de Barcelona. At 2.30 p.m. the Queen’s Cup – Segura Viudas Trophy will be the second. The highlight of the day will be the Longines Challenge Cup, starting at 9 pm.
