Germany Saves Best for Last in Compiegne

Germany Saves Best for Last in Compiegne

By Catie Staszak

It came down to the final rider, and Germany’s Frederic Wandres and his Olympic partner Bluetooth OLD did not disappoint as they led their nation to a second consecutive FEI Dressage Nations Cup™ victory Saturday at Compiegne (FRA).

A consistent Portugal squad took over the lead before Wandres entered the arena, putting the pressure on Germany’s anchor to record a score close to 70%—on a day where that number had been eclipsed just twice. Wandres delivered and then some, earning a mark of 75.696%; that comfortably clinched the victory for Germany and also earned Wandres top honors individually in the CDIO5* Grand Prix test.

Led by chef d’equipe Monica Theodorescu, the German squad of Wandres (Bluetooth OLD), Raphael Netz (Dieudonne), Carina Scholz (Blue Hors Veneziano), and Matthias Alexander Rath (Destacado FH) finished on a winning total of 215.522. Portugal finished second (209.152), followed by the Netherlands (207.783).

After winning the opening leg of the series in Wellington (USA), Germany holds a commanding lead in the FEI Dressage Nations Cup™ standings with 25 points. Portugal has moved into second (13 points), followed by the Netherlands (11). The FEI Dressage Nations Cup™ resumes at CDIO4* Lier (BEL) on 16 May 2025.
