GOV Licenses Dream Street Stallion Desperado
Wellington, FL (November 8, 2013) – Looking for the modern lines of today’s European sport horse? Look no further than Dream Street Stallions of Wellington, Florida, which is proud to announce it will be offering 17.1-hand Austrian Warmblood stallion, Desperado (Dream of Glory x World Cup One) to American mare owners looking for the uphill conformation, elasticity and eagerness of disposition that serious breeders especially desire in tomorrow’s amateur champions.
Desperado, who is being stood by owner Dawn Bernardo of Equine Imports, LLC and Rick Rockefeller-Silva of Dream Street Stallions, has been inspected and licensed for breeding by the German Oldenburg Verband (GOV). His sire is Dream of Glory, Germany’s 1999 best dressage sire in the Young Stallions division and PSI Auktionen Stallion of the Year, and his grandsire is Donnerhall (considered “the most successful dressage horse in the world”) and former mount of German Dressage Olympian, Isabel Werth.
“The most important attributes in a stallion, whether as a sale prospect or competition partner, are temperament and rideability,” says Rockefeller-Silva, a USDF Gold medalist who began making his mark on the dressage stage in 2006 working with Olympian Lisa Wilcox to prepare the stallion, Lullaby, as an alternate for the U.S. dressage team at the Young Horse World Championships. Shortly thereafter, he took Dream Street stallion, Starlight, to multiple USDF Horse of the Year titles, induction into the USDF Hall of Fame and the coveted Grand Champion title at Dressage at Devon.
Bernardo’s decision to bring a modern sport horse type-stallion like Desperado from Europe and make him available to American breeders also hinges on prioritizing temperament and tractability. The same attributes that aced the stallion’s scores in front of Oldenburg Verband inspectors will now offer bloodlines with the fire of a professional athlete in the cool elegance of an amateur partner.
“By importing a quality stallion like Desperado from Europe,” the two agree, “we hope to provide American breeders with the caliber of horse they would otherwise only have had access to through shipped semen.”
Fresh and frozen semen will be available for the start of the 2014 breeding season even as Desperado continues to be campaigned on the CDI circuit in Florida. Balancing the two, said Rockefeller-Silva, will not be a problem: “Dream Street is one of the very few stallion stations in the United States with experience balancing service to a full book of mares with a stallion’s competitive schedule.”
Bernardo and Rockefeller-Silva hold high expectations for Desperado as the stallion continues to move into the international CDI and Grand Prix arenas. “It’s exciting,” said Bernardo, “to be introducing a new face to American breeders for the first time.”

If Desperado continues to follow in the high-scoring hoofbeats of his prepotent sire and legendary grandsire, the goals set for him shouldn’t be a problem.
