HITS to Host 2022 USHJA Hunter Team Challenge East and Central
HITS LLC is thrilled to once again host the $5,000 USHJA Hunter Team Challenge at its premier facilities for the 2022 summer show season. This unique team experience offers opportunities for riders competing in the 2’-2’6” Children’s Pony Hunters, 2’6” Low Child/Adult Hunters and 3’ Children’s/Adult Amateur Hunter divisions. This year’s USHJA Hunter Team Challenge East will be held during the New York Horse & Pony Show (HITS VI) at HITS Saugerties from August 3-7, and the USHJA Hunter Team Challenge Central will be held during Lamplight Summertime III at HITS Chicago from July 20-24.
“We are very excited to be hosting two of the USHJA Hunter Team Challenge events,” said Tom Struzzieri. “Horse showing is often a very individualized experience, but the biggest events in the world are focused on the team aspect. Adding opportunities for riders to work together is vital to the growth of our sport, and having it added to the hunter discipline is a great chance for these riders to build camaraderie and have new experiences.”
The Hunter Team Challenge (HTC) will take place over two competitive days, and there is no qualifying procedure, so anyone is welcome to enter and enjoy the event. Riders who participate in the Hunter Team Challenge will also have an opportunity to earn bonus Zone Horse of the Year Points in their respective divisions.
Monica Hunt of Cornerstone Farm has worked closely with Zone 1 to bring this opportunity for hunter riders to fruition. “The Children and Adult Hunters don’t have much they can do in a team aspect, so the Hunter Team Challenge gives them something else to do other than competing on their own,” she explained. “They had a lot of fun last year doing it with the team and knowing that there is more of that camaraderie.”
On the first day of the competition, HTC classes will run concurrently with the show’s regular division classes as an overlay. On the second day, the under saddle will be held first with a class for each section. The Final Round will be held immediately following the under saddle. All teams will return for a final Classic-style over fences round, determining the champions.
