The future of U.S. show jumping looked bright as junior equitation riders took center stage at Wellington International Wednesday for the WIHS Jumper Phase during ESP Holiday I Equitation. Rising to the occasion in the WIHS Jumper Phase was USA’s Caroline Olsen and Spark of Phoenix, owned by Olsen LLC, with a score of 84. The pair were crowned the winners of the class by the two judges on the panel, Geoffrey Case and Thomas Carlson. Earning the red rosette was Reese Merna (USA) with a score of 82. Merna navigated the course with Independence M, owned by Dachis Sporthorses LLC. Earning the third-place title was Rylnn Conway (USA) aboard her own entry, Justify.

Continuing with competition for the week was the $5,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby, presented by Platinum Performance. The judges on the panel, Mary Eufemia and Kevin Eufemia, saw a total of fourteen horse-and-rider pairs in the class.

Kim Barone (USA) and her own entry, Enjoy, claimed the blue ribbon as the highest-scoring duo, posting tallies of 85 and 88 for a combined score of 173. With a total score of 170, Colin Syquia (USA), claimed second with Whatatime, owned by Mary Lannan-Cookingham. Barone also claimed the third-place title, earning a total score of 169 with Proud To Be VH for Sheryl Scolnick.

An action-packed week of competition returns next week to Wellington International for Holiday III. The event kicks off with schooling sessions on Tuesday, while the hunter and jumper competition will get underway on Wednesday. Prepare to be captivated with events that include the $10,000 Bainbridge Companies 1.40m Stake, the $5,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby, sponsored by Score at the Top, the $5,000 1.35m All Paws Animal Clinic Stake, the Equitation Flat, sponsored by Alexander Academic Access, and the $25,000 ProElite Holiday III Grand Prix to wrap up competition for the week.
