Knowing Horses by Heart

Knowing Horses by Heart was created to express the spectrum of emotions that are involved when you truly try to understand horses. For so long the general consensus regarding horses was to “show them who is boss” and interaction with them was based on dominance and intimidation. Of course, there have always been that certain few of highly evolved souls who recognized the gifts the horse was trying to offer humans. Fortunately, that attitude is now more prevalent and some of us are looking closer at the relationships that can be formed between humans and horses. These poems show my appreciation, gratitude and love for the horses in my life.

About the Author

I am an avid animal lover. Horses, dogs, cats, you name it. I seem to be a magnet to children and animals. I am very easy going and even tempered for the most part. I value my friendships with a reverence. I do not call someone a “friend” lightly but if you are one of my friends, I am loyal to a fault. You can count on me. I enjoy sharing my world with others who can only visit the farm and experience the wonders of nature and animals in small doses. I have no interest in the city life or the hustle and bustle that goes along with it. I like the country, views of the mountains, small towns, a few good friends, time with the family-especially the grand-kids, a good book, gardening, baking from scratch, being able to let my dogs run free, sharing a good bottle of wine with interesting conversation and soft, jazzy music and regular segments of quiet, down time. I like to watch easy light-hearted movies and practice yoga occasionally. My husband swears I was born missing the fear gene where my horses are concerned. I take chances and can laugh at myself when I make mistakes. I may be a touch on the shy or introverted side at times.

I currently own and operate a horse farm in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Georgia with my husband, Byron. I own horses of my own, boards horses for others, and share the equine experience with horse-lovers of all ages in unique camps, lessons, and visits.
