Laura Chapot Wins High Peaks Resort Jumper Class at Lake Placid Horse Shows

Amanda Steege and Valencio Win $5,000 Green Hunter Incentive Stake

Laura Chapot rode her C&C Willow to the win in the High Peaks Resort 1.40m Jumper Class on Wednesday at the 2023 Lake Placid Horse Shows (LPHS) Sponsored by Bainbridge Farms, LLC, and Presented by Sea Shore Stables, LLC.

Awarding more than $600,000 in prize money, the Lake Placid Horse Shows run June 27-July 9, highlighted by the $75,000 Great American Insurance Group Grand Prix Presented by Alliant Private Client on Sunday, July 2; the $75,000 Richard M. Feldman Grand Prix Presented by Kadley Farms on Saturday, July 8; and the $15,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby Regional Championship North presented by Eastern Hay and Grain and Purina Animal Nutrition on Sunday, July 9.

Chapot claimed Wednesday’s win with two clean rounds and a jump-off time of 36.740 seconds. Placing second was Gracie Allen on Bionce De Monts with two clean rides and a jump-off time of 37.196 seconds. Third went to Alex Matz with two clean rounds and a jump-off time of 43.361 seconds on Iluminaty MBF.

Wednesday’s hunter competition featured the $5,000 Green Hunter Incentive Stake 3’ & 3’3”, part of the USHJA Green Hunter Incentive North Regional Championship. Taking top honors was Valencio, owned by Frances Moppett and shown by Amanda Steege. Second place went to Royale AM, owned by Katie Robinson and shown by John French.

Celebrating 54 years of equestrian tradition, LPHS hosts competitions for riders of all levels and ages ranging from young children on polished ponies, to glistening hunters, to Olympic veterans aboard their grand prix mounts. Competition at the North Elba Showgrounds is held in four spectacular show rings – the Richard M. Feldman Grand Prix Field, the E.R. Mische Jumper Ring, the EquiJet Main Hunter Ring, and the Kovacs Williams Hunter Ring.

A USEF Heritage Competition, the LPHS shows are part of the World Championship Hunter Rider (WCHR) Awards Program and feature classes that are part of the Show Jumping Hall of Fame Jumper Classic Series, North American League (NAL) and Washington International Horse Show (WIHS) series. Week 1 features the JustWorld International Horseless Horse Show on Saturday and the Juliam Farm Leadline Class on Sunday, while Week 2 features the longstanding tradition of the horse show’s highly popular Doggie Costume Contest Sponsored by Man and Beast.

The LPHS also offers superb shopping in the boutique vendor area. Local Adirondack artists, products, clothing and apparel are featured, as well as real estate, photography, a variety of equine-related shops, a booth with official Lake Placid Horse Shows commemorative sportswear and merchandise, and an assortment of dining options with culinary delights. Many special events also take place throughout the horse shows that are entertaining for the whole family.
