Mary-Haskins Dressage Rocks Out with Ramone in Sotheby’s Stakes at Pinehurst Fall Dressage

Mary-Haskins Dressage Rocks Out with Ramone in Sotheby's Stakes at Pinehurst Fall Dressage New Bern, NC (September 26, 2013) - Mary-Haskins Dressage's Ramone rocked Pinehurst Fall Dressage, September 21-22, in North Carolina with a 76.552% win in the Sotheby's Stakes First Level and placed second in his second ride of the day, the First Level-2, with a strong 75.00%. “This was his fourth show. He did FEI Young Horse classes earlier this year but was in an awkward, goofy stage. Like his father, I think he will be slow to mature to full potential. He has a lot of growing to do but is clearly on his way,” said owner Mary-Haskins Gurganus of Mary-Haskins Dressage, based at Bethanna Perry's Rollover Downs in New Bern, NC. The 16.1 hand, four-year-old chestnut is by Haskins' stallion, Richmond, out of an Espri mare.

“This was his fourth show. He did FEI Young Horse classes earlier this year but was in an awkward, goofy stage. Like his father, I think he will be slow to mature to full potential. “I purchased Ramone from one of my partners, and breeder of Richmond, Lucile Broadley, as a two year-old and have been slowly bringing him along.”

In the interim, Haskins has successfully campaigned his sire, Richmond. They won the 2012 Wellington Cup and FEI High Score at Williamston Spring Dressage, and are on track this season for the NCDCTA Harvest Moon Dressage Championships (where Haskins has won NCDCTA Horse of the Year titles with five horses), GAIG/USDF Region 1 Championships and Region 1 Bengt Ljungquist Memorial Championships.

As for the up-and-coming Ramone? “I had been loosely marketing him for sale. But the longer he stays in my barn, the more he proves how incredible talent, work ethic and trainability are hard to come by in one horse. I plan on keeping him and bringing him along as he is ready.”

Pinehurst proved that: “I literally threw Ramone on the truck the morning of the show in hope of filling a scratch and getting my BLM score for First Level. He not only rose to the occasion but performed beyond expectation, bringing down huge scores overall and on his collective marks: 8.5 on gaits, 8 on submission, 8 on impulsion, 8.5 on harmony and 8.5 on rider. He qualified for October’s BLM’s where he will compete alongside Richmond on the small tour. I’m thrilled! I had him for sale and on a back burner. He’s proved beyond worthy.”
