Mexican success at the Longines FEI Challenge Cup

Sweden finished second and Brazil third

The Mexican team has won the Longines Challenge Cup, the consolation final of the Longines FEI Jumping Nations Cup, which was held tonight at the Olympic track of the Real Club de Polo de Barcelona.Longines FEI Challenge Cup #eliteequestrian

The Mexican riders completed the class with only one penalty point in the closing class of the third day of the CSIO Barcelona. The team was formed by Nicolás Pizarro (“Oak Grove’s Enkidu”), Andrés Azcárraga (“Contendros 2”), Fernando Martínez Sommer (“High Five”) and Manuel González Dufrane (“Hortensia Van de Leeuwerk”). The last two finished the course designed by Santiago Varela without any penalties.
The team was completed by Carlos Hank Guerreiro as substitute rider and Mark Laskin as Chef d’Equipe. In addition, Manuel González Dufrane won 50,000 euros prize money as he completed Thursday’s qualifying round and tonight’s Challenge Cup without penalties.

Second place went to the Swedish team with four points, followed by Brazil, with seven, Argentina, with eight, and Norway, with ten.

Julien Epaillard won the Queen’s Cup – Segura Viudas Trophy
The Queen’s Cup – Segura Viudas Trophy, second competition of the day travelled to France thanks to the impressive victory of Julien Epaillard, who was the fastest rider in the jump-off. With a time of 38.46 seconds, Epaillard, riding “Donatello D’Auge”, finished ahead of his compatriot Kevin Staut (“Visconti Du Telman”) and the Belgian Olivier Philippaerts (“Cap Du Marais”). There were 56 riders in the competition and the best Spanish representative was Carolina Aresu, who finished in 12th position riding Dawsons Flex.

Blai Capdevila gets the Negrita Cup
Blai Capdevila won his second class at the CSIO Barcelona  in the opening competition of the day. After winning the Royal Bliss Trophy on Friday, the Catalan rider won the Negrita Cup riding “Girbau Jamaica”. The second place went to RC Polo rider Elisabeth Goyoaga (“Kiela Contact”), while the also local  Diana Piera was third on “Rondine Del Terricio”.
