Mikala Gunderson Named Custom Saddlery Most Valuable Rider of the 2013 Gold Coast May Dressage Show
Wellington, FL (May 24, 2013) – Custom Saddlery, makers of handcrafted custom-fit dressage, jumping and event saddles, presented international dressage rider Mikala Gunderson with the Custom Saddlery’s Most Valuable Rider Award (MVR) for her amazing Grand Prix Freestyle ride at the Gold Coast May Dressage show. Riding the 15-year-old Danish Warmblood mare, My Lady, Gunderson scored an impressive 74.0% on her debut of her new freestyle. “I just tested this new freestyle, so it felt like more of a practice round,” Gunderson said about her ride, “I’m glad it went really well. I want to thank Custom Saddlery for this award and for the wonderful saddle pad,” she continued. “I appreciate it very much. Janne Rumbough, the owner of My Lady, won the MVR award earlier this year at the Palm Beach Dressage Derby, and I’m very proud to be following in her footsteps.”
Gunderson explained that she has been riding My Lady for a year and a half, and is excited about the progress they’ve been making. “She’s getting better everyday,” she said about My Lady. “I’m very lucky to have the opportunity to ride this horse,” she added. Rumbough was equally proud of her horse, and is very excited for Gunderson and My Lady to travel to Europe for a two month tour. She explained that the pair are heading off to Denmark to ride in the Danish Championships and then will “test the waters all over Europe.” Rumbough’s continuous dedication to her horses and riders like Gunderson has benefited the sport of dressage in the US tremendously, especially in the exclusive equestrian community in South Florida, of which she has been a part for over 36 years.
