The Contender is ThinLine’s Western counterpart to its already popular Contender for English riders. Called the “most technologically advanced saddle pad available in the world today,” The Contender creates the perfect amount of warmth, stability, and shock absorption for horse and rider by combining the therapeutic thermal technology ceramic fabric of Back on Track pads with the winning benefits of shock absorption, improved performance, and comfort that riders rely on from Thinline products.

Ever since Brian Dygert and Lendon Gray performed a reining/dressage pas de deux at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, the importance of a good saddle pad to the high performance demands of every discipline has been clear. Using a deep, strong seat to communicate to an attuned, responsive equine back is a language every rider can understand, including 1996 Olympic Dressage U.S. Individual Bronze medalist Michelle Gibson, who was not only at the Georgia International Horse Park when Dygert and Gray performed, but now uses ThinLine pads on 95% of her horses: “I love it because a ThinLine pad is thinner than a fleece pad, allowing you to be be closer to the horse.”

“It is a powerful combination,” agrees U.S. Dressage squad veteran and coach, Betsy Steiner, who calls the fit and stability offered by Thinline pads like its Contender a “powerful” combination: “The rider’s impact is diffused across the horse’s back while the Back on Track fabric increases blood flow and reduces inflammation during a ride.”

The Contender pads are available in black and white for Jumpers and Dressage Riders. Black for Western, joining ThinLine’s current stable of Western saddle pads including the ThinLine Felt Pads. The pad will start off at an introductory price of $189.
