Chad Keenum and C’est La Vie Capture the $10,000 Paul and Eve Go As You Please Handy Hunter at the Upperville Colt & Horse Show
UPPERVILLE, Va., June 6, 2026 — Chad Keenum and Ocean’s Edge Farm’s C’est La Vie topped a field of sixteen to win the $10,000 Paul and Eve Go As You Please Handy Hunter at the 2026 Upperville Colt & Horse Show, presented by MARS EQUESTRIAN™. delivering a round that earned them the top call on a score of 88. The pair was awarded the Paul and Eve Go As You Please Handy Hunter trophy, which is donated by Doug, Nina and Virginia Fout in memory of their parents.
Atlas, ridden by Faith Schuttemeyer for owner Sloan Sherman, was just a tick behind in second place on a score of 87.5, while Holly Shepherd finished third aboard EMO Stables’ Sidenote.
“C’est La Vie is a pre-green horse, so I chose a conservative track, but we hand galloped and he made a great effort today,” smiled Keenum, Middleburg, Va.
“It was great to win this class,” he continued. “I’ve tried many times before and I haven’t until now!”
The Paul and Eve Go As You Please Handy Hunter is unique to Upperville and is held in memory of Paul and Eve Fout, two of Virginia’s finest horsemen, and is sponsored by the Dun Foundation. The class is judged on performance, manners, way of going and handiness displayed by the rider’s choice of fences.
The 173rd UCHS continues through Sunday, June 7, featuring international show jumping, breeding classes, and family-friendly events. Spectators are welcome, and livestream coverage is available via ClipMyHorse.

About the Upperville Colt & Horse Show
The Upperville Colt & Horse Show, also known as the Upperville Horse Show and UCHS, is the oldest horse show in the U.S. Founded in 1853 as a one-day show to encourage better breeding and care of horses, the show has grown to a weeklong tradition with thousands of equestrian and equine pairs competing in a variety of competitive disciplines. Many of the continent’s top professional riders as well as amateurs compete under the spectacular setting featuring the famous oaks at Grafton Farm—the same location as 1853. UCHS is a 501(c)3 charitable organization that supports local area charities, including the Churches of Upperville Outreach Program.
