German Camargo and Ophelia Win Arthramid Grand Prix at Wellington International Annual Series
Colombia’s own German Camargo, now based in Loxahatchee, Fla., won Sunday’s $24,999 Arthramid Grand Prix riding Ophelia for owner Laurie Vanwynsberghe to conclude the second week of June competition during the 2026 Wellington International Annual Series.
The Annual Series’ June season runs for two weeks, featuring hunter, jumper and equitation competition at Wellington International, home of the famed Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF). Competition will now take a brief break before returning to the grass derby field at Equestrian Village for a four-week summer series running August 13-30. Learn more about the Annual Series HERE.
Hector Loyola (PUR) designed the grand prix tracks with nine horses advancing to an all-deciding jump-off. Camargo set an early standard over the short course, stopping the clock at 41.985 seconds.
Ophelia is owned and bred by Vanwynsberghe, who sent the now 12-year-old Belgian-bred mare (Diktator van de Boslandhoeve) to Camargo when she was barely saddle broke. He is still the only person to ever jump her.
“I have had her since the very beginning,” said Camargo, who leads a training business of 14 horses alongside his wife, Paula. Together, they have been based in the U.S. since 1999. “It was a good jump-off for [Ophelia] today—she is very fast, loves the grass and jumped really clean.”
