Polo & Sporting Art’s Experience
Polo & Sporting Art ~ Established in 1978,
The Chisholm Gallery in Wellington, Florida in Palm Beach County offers a fabulously eclectic mix of Sporting & Equestrian Art, Bronzes, Estate Offerings, Fine Art Photography, as well as Decorative Arts.
The Chisholm Gallery has been a leading international dealer of polo and sporting art for over three decades. We strive for a mix of fine art from new and established artists in a variety of media and subject matter.
Having developed a reputation as an international buyer and seller of fine and decorative arts, Jeanne works with private clients, decorators, architects, designers, publishers and museums. Gallery services include: building private and corporate art collections, brokering of art, purchase, sales and appraisals of individual works, collections and libraries.
Jeanne takes particular pride in helping new collectors build cohesive collections, adding work to existing collections or simply selecting a work of art for home or corporate decor.
Since its inception the Chisholm Gallery & Jeanne Chisholm has had a considerable impact in the world of sporting art.
Indeed, the world’s top design houses have turned to Jeanne Chisholm to answer their sporting art needs. These have included Cartier, which asked her to curate their celebrated exhibit POLO – USA: A Retrospective History of Polo in America, which showed first in Palm Beach and later traveled to New York, and Polo Ralph Lauren, who approached Jeanne for artifacts and paintings to decorate their flagship store, the historic Rhinelander Mansion on New York’s Madison Avenue.
Jeanne’s work with museums has included the Aiken Thoroughbred Racing Museum and Hall of Fame, in Aiken, South Carolina, which enlisted Jeanne to curate an exhibit commemorating 100 years of polo history, the National Museum of Dance and Hall of Fame in Saratoga Springs, New York, and most significantly the National Polo Museum and Hall of Fame. Jeanne served as Coordinating Director for the latter, an idea fostered by Jeremy Chisholm in the 1970s. The Chisholm Gallery, further, was invited to participate in the first-ever sporting art exhibit at the prestigious London Colnaghi Gallery.

Polo in America: The 1986-1987 Cartier Polo Retrospective
The 1986-1987 exhibit POLO IN AMERICA, A Retrospective Exhibition of Polo in the United States, Organized and Sponsored by Cartier, Inc., in Palm Beach, brought together an unprecedented collection of historically important polo art and memorabilia. This exhibit was considered to be of such international importance that it was re-created for one month as a “polo museum” on the second floor of Cartier’s historic Fifth Avenue building in June 1987.
Jeanne Chisholm endeavored exhaustively to get the vast majority of the objects lent to these exhibits donated to the permanent collection of the proposed National Museum of Polo and Hall of Fame in Lake Worth, Florida. Yet while they are still housed by the museum, most of them are not currently on display. It is our hope that soon they will be on view once again after proper cataloguing and archiving.
In its continued effort to serve the polo community, the Chisholm Gallery has posted a link to the original website cataloguing this important event, and will maintain this archive in conjunction with the Chisholm Gallery website. The link below will take you to a complete archive of the exhibit, photos and newspaper clippings. Enjoy!
