Vita Flex Victory Team’s Todd Minikus and Lauren Hough placed 3rd and 4th, with Minikus just a tenth of a second off King’s clean pace. Minikus and Legacy Stables, LLC’s Dutch gelding, Uraguay (Nairobi x Colino) clinched a fault-free round (38.33), while Hough and Ohlala, a Swedish Warmblood mare (Orlando x Cardento) were nipping at his heels with a 38.30. No stranger to D’Ambrosio courses, Minikus had already enjoyed a post-Thanksgiving win on Quality Girl at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center, over 45 top international contenders, in the $33,000 Nutrena Holiday & Horses Opener.

“My plan was to put in a double clear and hope everyone else had a rain storm,” Minikus joked. “I told Uruguay’s handlers when I came out, ‘That was a third place round,’ and it was. Nevertheless, we were very happy to be part of this event. Even though it was a little wet, it was a great day.”
